Cross Country Ski Areas Association

Who we are past and present

Bohart Ranch, named for the former owners Seth and Vavene Bohart, is located in the beautiful Bridger Mountains in the heart of the Rockies near Bozeman Montana. The Ranch was purchased from their estate in October 1980, and trails on the property have been in use since. Bohart Ranch Cross Country Ski Center was founded in 1987 by Jean MacInnes. It is owned and operated by Jean and her son, Christopher Myers.

A feeling of the Old West awaits the Nordic skier at the day- use ski center located a scenic 16.6 mile drive up Bridger Canyon from Bozeman. Skiers at Bohart Ranch experience scenic solitude and are often treated to wildlife sightings from squirrels, ermine, rabbits and birds to larger animals such as moose and deer. To preserve the quality of the property for skiing and non-motorized recreation and to limit development, a conservation easement has been placed on the property with the Gallatin Valley Land Trust.

As the business increased over the years, new trials, employees, programs, and equipment have been added to provide a high quality Nordic operation. Skier visits have increased from about 3000 to well over 13,000 in the 05-06 season.

A special emphasis is placed on service to the Nordic community. There is a full calendar of events and programs happening at Bohart year around.

The Ski Center is well known for having impeccably groomed trails. Our 25k of trails are groomed on a regular basis to provide smooth and consistent skiing. We use the latest in grooming technology. Currently Bohart trails are groomed with a Bombardier BR-180. In addition snowmobiles with specialized attachments are used for supplemental grooming. Trails are 15 feet wide and laid with a set of classic tracks next to a skate lane. The base area of Bohart is located at 6,100 feet. Our plentiful cold snow conditions and grooming perfection make us known for the best Nordic skiing this side of Norway!

Bohart Ranch has built a national and international reputation and has hosted numerous competitions, including the 2002 U S National Championships Olympic Qualifier. A Biathlon Range was constructed in 1989 for year-round training and competition. Bohart Ranch hosted the 1995 Summer Biathlon National Championships.

In summer, the trails are open for walking, running, mountain biking, horseback riding, Summer Biathlon and Frisbee Golf. Bohart Ranch provides the perfect scenic backdrop for your mountain wedding, family reunion or business retreat.

Bohart Ranch is open for winter use from December through March from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM daily. From Memorial Day through October enjoy Bohart Ranch during daylight hours.
